Learning through play...

The structure of every day at Linton Granta Playgroup is planned to provide a familiar routine yet allow time for a variety of stimulating activities.

We try to go outside at least once a day and also make use of the Village College facilities. Special events are always planned for Easter, May Day and Christmas.

A typical day is as follows...

We begin each session with an informal registration process and the children are welcomed into the room by our practitioner team in our main playroom.

During the morning, children are given the freedom to choose their learning path and are able to select from a wide range of good quality toys to play with, messy play, construction, imaginary play, games and creative activities. Practitioners support children in their play and prepare some more planned activities for children to choose.

We run a ‘chatterclub’ to support early language development and also a games club. We are able to provide free flow play throughout the morning and children are able to play out on the veranda area.

We aim to play outside in the garden every day (wellies and all-weather clothing are essential) and the children enjoy sand and water play, playing on the climbing frames, scooting and riding bikes and exploring.

We also go exploring around the college grounds looking for bugs, puddles, numbers and shapes.

Every half term we aim to take the children on an excursion around the village. During warmer weather, we spend the whole session outside in the garden, using the garden as an outdoor playroom.

During the session we also run a ‘snack café’ where children can have a healthy snack and drink when they want to, supervised by one of our practitioners.

The morning ends with story time and song time.
